Publishing open access articles in SAGE, Taylor& Francis and Elsevier journals with a discounted open access fee

The researchers and authors of University of Jyväskylä are entitled to publish their articles as open access in SAGE, Taylor and Francis and Elsevier journals with a discounted APC (Article Processing Charge) rate from the beginning of 2017.

SAGE

According to the agreement made by FinELib consortium the researchers can publish their articles as open with 200 GBP when acting as a corresponding author of the article. The undiscounted APC rate would be 1 600 GBP. The discounts do not concern open access journals.

It is extremely important that the author will be responsible for the discount since the publisher will not make any refunds retrospectively.

The discount will be applied to these SAGE journals.

The instructions for publishing the article as open in SAGE journals:

1) SAGE informs the author of the acceptance of the article and makes an offer to publish the article via open access.

2) The author completes an OA acceptance form, where he/she can find a “institutional code” box.

3) The author enters code “FinELib2017” into this box.

4) SAGE invoices for £200 instead of the standard APC rate.

When the article has been accepted the author has to fill in the code in the acceptance form and see that the invoicing will take place with a discounted APC-rate (200 GBP).

Taylor & Francis

FinELib-consortium has agreed with T&F that the researchers can publish their articles as open with 860 euros when acting as a corresponding author of the article. The undiscounted APC rate would be 2 150 euros. The discounts do not concern open access journals.

NOTE: Open Science Centre (library) pays the discounted APC, if the article is accepted to a journal rated on levels 2 or 3 in Publication Forum and if the author chooses to publish her/his article as open.

The instructions for publishing the article as open in Taylor & Francis hybrid journals:

1) T&F sends the corresponding author a message about the acceptance of the article and informs about the possibility to publish the article open access.

2) The library contacts the author if the article is eligible (Publication Forum levels 2 or 3) for library's payment. The author can choose whether publish his/her article as open or not.

3) The library sends a confirmation to T&F about the discounted APC-payment.

4) The corresponding author confirms the open access license chosen in the T&F publishing system.

Elsevier

The researchers affiliated to the University of  Jyväskylä have an opportunity to publish their articles open access with a discount in Elsevier journals. The discount is 50% of the journal’s APC-list price (APC=article processing charge).

Discount is available if the article is accepted to one of the journals listed here. Please load the list, the preview doesn't necessarily work properly.

The list includes over 1500 Elsevier owned  hybrid-journals and over 100 Full OA-journals. The society-owned titles published by Elsevier are not included.

Instructions to the corresponding author:

  1. When the article, in which you are the corresponding author, is accepted, Elsevier sends you an e-mail and asks you to fill in the Rights and access form.
  2. When you want your article to be published open access, please remember to ensure that you have the funding for the discounted APC payment.
  3. When filling in the  Elsevier Rights and access form, please choose:
  • Funding body: Make you selection - Research reported in the article: choose: Was conducted in Finnish universities/research institutes
  • Open Access - Publishing options: choose Gold open access (this is not relevant if the journal in question is a full OA journal)
  • Licenses: You have the choice between two different CC-licenses. In both options your own reuse rights regarding the articleare defined by the CC-license terms. The options are:
    • CC BY 4.0 (Attribution) Creative Commons describes the license like this: This license lets others distribute, remix, tweak, and build upon your work, even commercially, as long as they credit you for the original creation.
    • CC BY-NC-ND 4.0 (Attribution-NonCommercial-NoDerivs) Creative Commons describes the license like this: allows others to download your works and share them with others as long as they credit you, but they can’t change them in any way or use them commercially. Please note that if you choose this, more restrictive CC BY-NC-ND license, the rights to commercial use and modifications (derivatives) stay with Elsevier.
  1. Complete the form. Please note that for technical reasons this form shows you the list price of the APC payment, not the discounted one. The 50% discount is calculated from this price.
  2. Elsevier publishes the article open access.
  3. Your organization’s library/information service will be  informed  that you have chosen open access publishing for your article and will confirm your affiliation to Elsevier.
  4. You get an invoice of the APC payment. Please check that the total price in the invoice is correct (50% of the APC list price).

The questions concerning the discounted APC payments can be sent to Information Specialist Irene Ylönen or Librarian Arto Ikonen.
